Our website thrives on submissions. Ordinary people just like us are what make this site work. Everyone has something they are good at, or something they know about: history, science, religion, books, baseball, the internet, fly fishing, ballet, rap music, precision machine tooling, etc. We need everyone’s expertise including your special gifts to build EarthChronicle.com; submissions are critical, testing our new beta features is important, and there are many other jobs that we need done. EarthChronicle.com grows when someone who knows a lot about baseball submits an essay about a baseball player, or how to coach a team, or a video of batting techniques. EarthChronicle.com grows when someone who knows a lot about quantum physics submits a written essay about the latest findings, or a diagram that makes a concept clear to beginners, or a Public Domain image from the Hubble Telscope with a desciption of its importance to astronomy. EarthChronicle.com grows when someone who knows a lot about president John Adams submits an essay about a his life, or his presidency, or his impact on freedom of speech. Remember, our goal is to provide a place where cold hard facts can be found with clear explanations. It is supremely trivial to complete your work quickly. It is CRITICAL to complete your work accurately so it will be understood and trusted by those who read it. If you would like to contribute, click here for more info! Note: All work submitted to EarthChronicle.com becomes Public Domain, so if you cite someone else’s work you must do so carefully. If the work is legally part of the Public Domain it can be used as we need. If you provide proper references in the article however, you can mention an idea of someone else’s or quote an important sentence or two even if its not in the Public Domain, assuming other articles have not overused the source already. In fact, as much as possible we would like to trace the history of ideas, so find out where ideas in your essays come from as much as possible. This also solves some copyright issues if you can trace an idea to a work in the Public Domain. This is why we hope experts and scholars will take the time to submit their own articles to EarthChronicle.com. There are also many other ways you can help if you wish to be involved. We need…Web Designers: We need people to give us feedback about how our site looks and works. We have lots of wonderful ideas and information to share. However, if the graphics design is so bad no one can understand it, or the site is so twisted that no one can find it, it’s no good to anybody. We need supporters to look over the ideas on our Beta site. That's where we try our new ideas and we need your feedback. There are improvements we’re looking to make, and there are major new site features we’re looking to add. We need opinionated people to test them out and experts who know how to design and build them. Are you interested in helping design our website? Click here for more info! Proofreaders: we need proofreaders to check every submission for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and READABILITY. Some people have excellent grammar and spelling or have good software to check their work. The issue which causes us concern is that every essay is going to be read by lots of people, so it should be well written, not just "correct". There are all kinds of "gramatically acceptable" ways to write that just aren't a good idea. We are really asking our proofreaders to edit these essays to make sure submissions are clear, concise, and understandable. Otherwise they won’t do any good to anyone once posted. So everything has to be checked by a real, honest to gosh human. Spell and grammar checks as well as a thesaurus are wonderful tools. I use them myself, but they tools for you, not a substitute for your expertise. If you have the skills to pinpoint what's good in an article and polish it, click here for more info! Researchers: We need researchers to check the factual content of the essays. First we need to very carefully check that what is written in every essay is correct. This is the soul of EarthChronicle.com and what makes us a cut above other excellent sites like Wikipedia. If its on our website you know you can trust it; our researchers are the ones who make sure that this happens. In fact, the process of researching an article, if its done correctly, will probably lead to one or more articles giving more background and tracking the history of the ideas in the original article. This is an excellent way for scholars, professors, and serious students to create interesting drafts of papers with quality proofreading and research support.
